Childs Play
The following clip is a very nice acoustic composition from FlyingHorseKnuckles. It is a song he wrote for his new son. A good song for this time of year I feel. The lyrics are his, I posted them below in case you want to sing along!
A song I wrote for my firstborn. I’m not crazy about the music, but the lyrics are heartfelt. Lyrics:
MOUNTAINS ON THE MOONI see my son and I think of how it was,
Before my eyes were opened,
To the world and all its flaws.
He sees me as a rock, a pinnacle of truth,
And it pains me when I think of
How he’ll lose that veil of youth.Oh, oh, oh,
Many mountains you must climb.
Oh, oh, oh,
Many mysteries defined.
All your questions so unanswerable,
You will discover for yourself, son,
When your eyes are not so full.
Oh, oh, oh,
“There’s a monster in my room!”.
No, no, no,
It’s just a jacket on a broom.
“Daddy please, won’t you play with me some more?”
Son, you know I’d love to stay,
But there’s a world that will not wait outside the door.If I could have a wish, I’d pray he’d never grow.
I want to hold him tight and never let him go.
I can’t protect him from his ever filling mind,
And it saddens me to think of all the bad things he will find.Oh, oh, oh,
Many paths from which to choose.
Oh, oh, oh,
So much innocence to lose.
Stay a child in your never-never land,
And I will do my best to shelter
you as long as I can.
Oh, oh, oh,
“Daddy, where did I come from?”.
Oh, oh, oh,
Wait a little longer, son.
Soon enough you will know in great detail,
All the doors will swing wide open,
Though I wish for me that many remained sealed.Somebody told me there were mountains on the moon.
The way we’re moving we may live among them soon.
And when we look back at the mess we left behind,
Will our heart beat like a child’s,
Or will there still be hills we’ve yet to climb?Oh, oh, oh,
Many worlds to be explored.
Oh, oh, oh,
Any warning is ignored.
You must do as the billions have before.
But I hope that I can guide you,
Let me show you what’s in store.
Oh, oh, oh,
See the wrinkles on my face.
Don’t you know,
I draw breath but by his grace.
In the end, as I fade and you increase,
All I long for in this life,
Is that I gave you hope for love and joy and peace.words & music by Jon Shelton ©1998
While we are on the subject of kids, here is a great clip of a very cute three year old explaining what will happen when the monsters come. Absolutely nothing to do with effects pedals but it is simply gorgeous!
